Salisbury University’s (SU) School of Social Work invites applications for a 10-month tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank. The School of Social Work prioritizes community engagement, collaborative faculty-led curriculum development, and educational innovation, within a strong culture of shared governance.

Accredited since 1975, Salisbury University’s School of Social Work offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees and is continually seeking ways to better serve students, communities, and the profession of social work.

Seated within the College of Health and Human Services, the School annually serves more than 700 students, in both online and campus-based program options. The School’s over 30 faculty and staff teach and work across program options, creating an environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and engagement.

Primary Job Duties: Teaching responsibilities for this full-time, tenure-track position include graduate and undergraduate courses in hybrid or online formats. The individual in this position will advise students, engage in scholarly work, and provide service to the School, College, and University. Candidates with a strong social justice, anti-racist, and trauma-informed practice approach and who can teach in either advanced clinical practice or practice-informed research are preferred.

Minimum Qualifications: A CSWE-accredited master’s degree in social work; minimum of two years of post-MSW professional practice experience; and a doctoral degree in social work or a related field prior to date of hire are required. Candidates are asked to provide evidence of teaching experience; demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion; and a record of scholarship appropriate to the rank.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience providing effective teaching strategies which enhance the success of diverse learners; experience with innovative teaching approaches; and experience with online teaching. Candidates that demonstrate preparation to teach in the areas of (a) advanced clinical practice with individuals, families, or groups, or (b) practice-informed research are preferred. The School of Social Work is committed to providing accessible, cutting-edge social work education to students locally and globally and is known as a leading innovator on campus.  The School serves students at five campus locations across the state of Maryland, including Salisbury University and four regional programs. The regional programs, which enroll both undergraduate and graduate social work students, allow students to attend a campus-based program close to home. Since 2014, in collaboration with a sister institution and under a contract with the Department of Defense, the School of Social Work has provided undergraduate and graduate social work education to military-connected students located throughout Europe. Most recently, the School of Social Work launched regional online BASW and MSW program options. 

This year, Salisbury University’s School of Social Work is thrilled to be launching its newly revamped graduate curriculum, with specializations in Clinical Social Work and Advocacy and Social Change and Leadership. This includes the adoption of a new course titled Anti-Racist Social Work in Action, which invites students to critically evaluate attitudes, values, and beliefs regarding diversity and identity formation.
