Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 62 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Located on the historic Eastern Shore, SU's beautiful campus is some 30 miles from the Atlantic beaches and 2.5 hours from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Job Summary

As a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited institution, SU’s School of Social Work (SSW) requires a year-long (2 semester) field placement for BASW students and 2 year-long (2 semesters each) field placements for MSW students. A subset of students also complete field placement hours in the summer and winter terms. With the creation of the online MSW program in 2016, enrollment increased sharply, and we now serve students in eight states and Washington, DC. In addition, when BASW and MSW students in our UMGC/SU partnership program are transferred “stateside,” we continue to serve them in whatever state they land. Currently, this means that we have students in 15 states in addition to Maryland.

For the Fall 2023 semester, the SSW had 367 graduate and undergraduate students in field placements. Of these, 123 (33%) attended classes on the SU campus (and typically had field sites on or near the Lower Eastern Shore). The remaining students were placed either near one of our regional program locations (21% in Cecil County, Chesapeake County, Hagerstown, or Southern Maryland); in Europe (12%); or in one of the 14 states/regions with students served by our online MSW or UMGC stateside transfer program options (30%).

This one-to-one position replacement request is for a Field Practice Coordinator to work with the final group of students above (online MSW and UMGC stateside transfer). We currently have 109 such students in placements across 14 states/regions. The individual in this position is responsible for (1) identifying, securing, monitoring, and maintaining relationships with field practice sites for the SSW’s online MSW program option; (2) identifying, securing, monitoring, and maintaining relationships with field practice sites for the SSW’s UMGC-Europe/SU partnership program option who are transferring to the United States; and (3) providing external supervision for 10-15 MSW students.
