Job Description

The Towler laboratory in the NextGen Precision Health building is currently seeking a Research Lab Manager at the University of Missouri.

The Towler laboratory studies the endocrine regulation of the bone-vascular axis, relevant to aortic valve /vascular calcification and osteoporosis using preclinical disease models (mice, swine) and biochemical analyses of human tissue specimens. Disease severity is most pronounced in patients with metabolic syndrome and chronic kidney disease. As lab manager, this individual will be responsible not only for organizing the lab and performing a number of experiments, but also onboarding and supervising new trainees (students, post-docs) and junior technical staff in the lab.

Job duties for the Research Lab Manager consists of the following:
  • Organization and regulatory compliance of BSL2 research laboratory; reagent ordering and scheduling maintenance of equipment in conjunction with other laboratory staff. Onboarding new lab personnel in conjunction with PI, NextGen staff
  • NA/DNA/protein extraction, quantitative metabolic transcriptomic and biochemical analyses primary cell cultures and tissues, extracellular vesicle isolation / characterization - in lab and in conjunction with core facilities
  • Animal phenotyping (body composition, draws), husbandry, necropsy in genetically engineered murine and swine models of human disease
  • Laboratory data recording, organization, initial analyses using existing software, records maintenance and Immunological assessment by immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, mass / flow cytometry

Shift

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's or Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Postgraduate degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, or physiology; > 5 years research lab experience

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $58,573 - $83,304 per year

Grade: GGS- 011
