Senior Safety Specialist— Industrial Worker Safety (IWS)

Description - Regular Full-time, MR09, Salary DOE&Q

Position Description:

Although some aspects include safety within laboratories, primary responsibilities are for maintenance, construction, and other non-laboratory workplaces and work taking place within the university. Under the direction of the IWS Supervisor reviews, plans, implements, and coordinate safety programs, requiring application of engineering principles and technology, to prevent or correct hazards in the workplace. The position will perform comprehensive safety and health inspections, surveys, and audits; monitoring and evaluation to determine compliance with EHS programs and Federal, state, and local health & safety regulations including those that are complex in nature and where extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements and hazard controls is necessary.


Qualifications :

Responsibilities include the following:

· Responsible for developing and managing two or more safety/compliance programs that may include but not limited to: fall protection; confined space entry; materials handling; respiratory protection; hearing conservation; silica and other dust hazards, hoisting & lifting; and machine safety. Conduct incident/accident investigations and ensure conformity with laws and regulations.

· Experience with collection of metrics and advanced data-analytics for creation of proactive risk mitigations

· Perform assessments on safety complaints/concerns, non-compliances, and workplace accidents/incidents; provides written reports which include recommended corrective actions and lessons learned.

· Reviews and provides updates to the Training Development, Delivery & Communications Manager for Industrial/Worker Safety web pages.

· Provides support with personal protective equipment risk-assessments monitoring and evaluations.

· Design, develop and deliver occupational safety & health safety and other types of safety training for UT faculty, staff, students, and visitors. This includes updating annual refresher training based on the prior year's inspection findings and establishing other innovative methods for delivering refresher training.

· Acts as subject matter expert to campus community for assigned program areas

· Evaluates workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and Federal/state regulations.

· Willing to become a certified CPR/AED/BFA instructor and provide training courses through the EHS ASHI certified training center when assigned.

· Write technical, informative, investigations, or operational reports which include recommendations and/or corrective actions.

· Provide 24/7 coverage of the EHS One Call emergency response number as assigned.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s Degree or the ability to earn one within two years, 3-5 years of experience working in safety and/or industrial hygienist position. Experience performing safety and health evaluation, audits, inspections, and industrial hygiene monitoring. Experience preparing technical reports and professional correspondence.

Preferred: Master’s degree and experience performing industrial-hygiene related evaluations and monitoring and the preparation of technical reports. Extensive experience performing safety audits and inspections in both construction and general industries. Credentials in an occupational health & safety or related safety field (e.g., CIH, ASP, CSP, etc.).
